An article in the Washington Post claims that AOL's latest cost cutting measures are hitting the bloggers that write for their popular Weblogs Inc network. Some blogs have been asked to reduce posting, a few have gone on hiatus and some bloggers are even reporting that they have been asked to work for free! AOL disputes this, claiming all bloggers will be paid and the moves are only temporary and meant to offset June's overspending. For the bloggers sakes, let's hope they are right!

Maybe you don't get enough comments on your blog. Consider posting to other bloggers blogs on a regular basis. Just choose half a dozen blogs or so that you really like and that pertain to your blog. Then go there every week and post some comments on the newest blog posts.

Once other bloggers see you posting on their blogs, they'll come over and start posting on your blog. Regular readers of their blogs will also want to see who you are and will come to your blog to check you out. They'll probably start posting on your blog too. Soon you'll have lots of comments on your blog, and more readers too.

Linking to other blogs from your blog is called, link love. It's the way bloggers help each other promote their blogs. Link love means that when I link to your blog, you'll link back. Then your readers will come see me and my readers will come see you. We both benefit.

Why do we do this? Several reasons. One reason is that the more links you have to your site from other blogs, the higher the search engines will rank your site. Another reason would be that the more people that can find your site, the more page views you get, hence the more money you make.

Make sure to post to other blogs a couple times a week. Then email them and let them know about it. They'll probably give you some link love.

Most people will only read one or two pages of your blog before moving on. If you want them to move beyond that and delve deeper into your blog then you're going to have to entice them a little more. Linking to yourself is a great way to do this. At the end of every blog post, link.

Think of at least three other blog posts on your blog that are similar to or related to the post you just wrote. Create a small section at the end of your post and call it something like, "Related Posts" or "More About...". Then link to these other blog posts. You're bound to get more traffic when you show your readers what else you have to offer them.

Look through your stats and figure out which keywords work best on your blog. Which search terms are people typing into search engines to get to your site in the first place. This is an important thing to know if you are going to get more readers to come in from search engines.

When you know what people on your blog are looking for, you can write blog posts based around those search terms. You can also go back and optimize blog posts you've already written about those topics. This will increase the ranking of those pages and bring you in more readers.

If you don't have stats for your blog, consider using Google Analytics. They have everything that you need to keep track of your stats.
