So you've got a blog and you're ready to start making money with it. You can sign up for Adsense and every affiliate program out there, and even sell ad space on your blog, but it will all be in vain unless you've got a sold and devoted readership. In the blog world, readers are money. They are the ones that will look at your ads and click on the ones that interest them. They are also what will make your blog attractive to advertisers and sponsors. If your blog as a large readership that happens to fit a desirable demographic, bingo! You are in the perfect position to make a tidy income.

So how do you get there? The most important thing you can do to build your readership is to post. Post regularly and make sure it's your best work. Do a little keyword research and use the most popular ones in your posts and tags. An ideal posting schedule is 3-5 times a week. Any less and your readers may get bored and any more and they might get overwhelmed. Google loves blogs that are updated frequently and those are the ones that get the best placing in search results.

Another thing that helps build readership is comments. Respond to the ones you get and comment on blogs who have a similar topic as yours. Put your blog's url in your sig when posting on forums and mailing lists too. However, never, ever spam! You want your comments and posts to contain useful or interesting information regarding the topic on hand, not an ad for your blog.
