MediaPost has an interesting
article about the pitfalls of blogging just for the SEO benefits. Anyone who's ever had their content scraped by a splog knows that blogging just for the SEO benefits (i.e. ad impressions) is not looked upon very highly. Neither are blogs set up just so they can be plastered with affiliate links and paid posts. Making money blogging is a fun and rewarding experience, but if you are blogging solely for the income possibilities and not because you love it, your readers can tell and won't stick around for long. Very few of us will ever reach the heights of a Darren Rowse, but blogging can still be financially rewarding. However, get into it just to make money and you won't last long. Readers will go elsewhere, and advertisers will follow them. The number of abandoned blogs littering the netscape is proof of that.
